Untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak release before Christmas 2010

Comex of Spirit and JailbreakMe fame has confirmed that a more efficient userland-based untethered jailbreak method for iOS 4.2.1 will be released before Christmas 2010.

For those who do not know what untethered and tethered jailbreak means:
For untethered jailbreak, it means that if you jailbreak your ipod touch/iphone/ipad and then switch it off, your jailbroken state is still there. For tethered jailbreak, you have to connect your iDevices to iTunes in order to boot it back into a jailbroken state again if it is switch off.

Currently, only tethered jailbreak is available using Redsn0w 0.9.6rc8

Updated on 16 Jan 2011:
Currently Redsn0w 0.9.7 for iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak is released to beta testers. So stay tune for the official release.

You can untethered jailbreak iPhone 3G, old-bootrom of iPhone 3GS and non-MC iPod Touch 2G using redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 only. The rest will be tethered jailbreak.
